There is an old song that asks, “Do you know where you’re going to?” That’s a great question we all should answer.
I am comforted to hear that even Albert Einstein had brain cramps every now and and then. There is a story that is told about a time he was headed out of town on one of his many speaking engagements. In those days, most of his travel was by train and the conductor came through to punch tickets. The great scientist was so preoccupied with his work, he could not find his ticket. It was not in his pockets, briefcase, or wallet. He simply could not find his ticket.
“We all know who you are, Dr. Einstein,” said the conductor. “I am certain you bought a ticket. Don’t worry about it.”
Einstein continued to frantically search for his ticket and at one point even got out of his seat, and crawled on the floor looking for his lost ticket.
The conductor walked back, “Dr. Einstein, please don’t worry about it. I know who you are.”
Exasperated, Einstein looked up and said, “I, too, know who I am. What I don’t know is where I’m going.”
Have you ever felt like Einstein? You may not be that intelligent, but there are times in life we don’t know where we are going. That can be extremely frustrating because you never know when you have arrived.
What should we do in those situations? My encouragement to you is to stop, think, and walk. What I mean by that is to stop what you are doing. Take a brief break, maybe a weekend or several days, and just put the busyness of life on pause.
Second, think. Think about what you want to do in life. What are your goals? Where do you want to be in 10 years? How have you been created and what talents do you possess? Thinking about these types of questions gives you a better handle on what you want to do, were made to do, and would be happy doing.
Finally, walk. I mean by that, move forward on those dreams. Dreams never become reality as long as you stay in the rut. You have to progress toward those dreams, even in small steps, to achieve the dreams you want reach. Don’t stay where you are. Take a step.
It is frustrating to not know where you are going in life. You don’t have to constantly live in that frustration but you do have to take action. Boldly move forward toward making your dreams a reality.
